SHOCK ABSORBERS: Shock absorbers, located one to each wheel, are an often over-looked maintenance item. Shock absorbers should be replaced at any times of leakage or if you find an abnormally bouncy ride as you head down the road. The manufacturer recommends shock absorber replacements every 20,000 to 25,000 miles. Worn out shock absorbers can give you abnormal and rapid tire wear and can also have an adverse effect on your suspension and its components. Have your suspension and steering system lubricated at every other oil change. It involves simply inserting a grease gun into each lubricating point and pumping until grease begins to spill out. Lubricating points are usually found at the upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, idler arm, steering box and U-joints. At the very least, have front wheel bearings re-packed when replacing worn disc pads. MacPherson Strut suspension utilizes a single strut that contains a coil spring and strut cartridge within. Together they act as a shock absorber. Periodic replacement of the strut cartridges will be necessary.
